The more I learn
“The advancement of learning is the highest commandment.”
Maimonides
Someone once said to me that to become a Christian you have to leave your brains at the door. I didn’t. Quite the contrary I wanted to know as much as I could about this Jesus. I wanted to know if everything that was said about him was true.
I believed in God. That has never been a problem for me but I wanted to know more about Jesus.
I searched the Bible for the truth. I come to the conclusion that Jesus is indeed the Son of God. God incarnate.
The more I study the Bible the more my convictions as to who Jesus is are strengthened.
I know there are people out there, well educated people out there who would disagree with me. There have been scholars from the time of Christ who have disagreed with who he is. That is their choice.
The book of Matthew records,
“But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.”
“Yes, it is as you say,”Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy.”
Matthew 26:63-65.
For Jesus to make such a statement in his day, to say that he was the Son of God was to say the least suicidal.
Jesus was well educated with respect to Jewish laws and customs of the day. He knew that if he claimed to be equal to God that he could be put to death. So he was either suicidal or a lunatic.
I do not believe Jesus to be a lunatic. I don’t think any educated man today would say that of Jesus.
If he were a lunatic the movement he started would have died out centuries ago. The people who followed him would have realized not long after his death that he was not real.
There had been others claiming to be the Christ prior to Jesus all of whom died and their followers dispersing.
The fact the disciples of Jesus firmly believed he was the Christ, believed to the point they were willing to endure torture and death convinces me he was the Son of God.
The choice however remains up to the individual.
All I a believer in Christ would as of the unbeliever, is to read the New Testament and learn about Jesus first hand from those who knew him best.
Please think about it.
