Of God and Atheism

Of God and Atheism
Peter John Kreeft wrote,
“Atheism treats people cheaply. Also, it robs death of meaning, and if death has no meaning, how can life ultimately have meaning? Atheism cheapens everything it touches, look at the results of communism, the most powerful form of atheism on earth.
And in the end, when the atheist dies and encounters God instead of nothingness he had predicted he’ll recognize that atheism was a cheap answer because it refused the only thing that’s not cheap the God of infinite value”
                                      Peter John Kreeft ph.d
Over the years I’ve had people say to me. “This life is all we have, he who has all the toys at the end wins.”
To which I reply “In the end you don’t have all the toys because you can’t take them with you.”
The writer of Ecclesiastes wrote,
“I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took delight in all my work, and this was the reward for all my labour.
Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun.”
                                                                                   Ecclesiastes 2:10,11.
If this world is all there is then it’s a waist of a soul, that spark that makes us sentient  beings that makes us makes us higher than the animals.
Every civilization that has ever been has believed in an afterlife. I for one cannot believe that the majority of people who have ever lived are wrong about their belief in life after death.
Life without God has for me no meaning. Why be born in the first place if all we have is this world.
The poet wrote,
Where are the people?
Where?

Are they but shadows in the mall?
Are they?

Are they shadows in time,
Shadows wandering looking for the latest trinkets, bobbles or beads.

What is life?
What?

Is life but a wisp of smoke carried in the air?
A wisp in the eternal ether

Are people wisps?

What of man’s or woman’s! accomplishments?
What of them?

Is the sum total of all ones life simply a pile of shinny tin, brass, and wood?
Is that life?

Is life simply a cacophony of sounds travelling through endless time?
Is it?

Or

Is a life.
Yours or mine more?

Is it a divine opera?
An opera played out on a high mesa

A stage suspended between heaven and hell.
Are we as Shakespeare said simply actors?

Life is an opera played out before God.
On a high mesa between heaven and hell.

Are we but actors in a play?
Actors awaiting the final curtain call sending us to eternity?
Are you ready for the final curtain call?
Are you?

What is the sum total of your life?
What?

What will “they” say about you as you pass on?
What will God say?

If this life is all there is, I’ve live a good one. Believing in God and Jesus and all He stands for has enriched my life immensely.
If I am right there are many atheist out there who have a lot to worry about because they one day stand before and  be judged by a just and holy God.
Please think about it.
