Of Atheism and Christianity

Of Atheism and Christianity
“Atheism is cheap on people through because it snobbishly says nine out of ten people through history have been wrong about God and have had a lie at the core of their hearts.”
Peter John Kreeft ph.d
The writer or Ecclesiastes states
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”
                                                                                         Ecclesiastes 3:11.
I firmly believe that man is an eternal being. That atheist are wrong. I believe that from the moment of conception God places in the heart of all people a sense of eternity. But like the Ecclesiastes states, “yet they (Men) cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”
We cannot fathom God completely because we are finite beings of flesh and blood. We can only fully understand what we can see in the world around us.
All our knowledge of God comes from the teachings of the Bible. In the Bible God sets in human terms what heaven is like. But to my mind it’s like trying to describe the planet Pluto to a five year old. Even those who have seen the latest images of Pluto have trouble putting into words what they see.
So it is with God. I believe God through the prophets, through Jesus and the writers of the Old and New Testaments explained to man the best way possible what heaven is like. And because there is no way of knowing short of going there we have to take their word for it.
That’s where faith comes in. The writer of Hebrews states,
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
                                                                                                                                   Hebrews 11:1
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
                                                                                                      Hebrews 11:6.
The writer of Hebrews however makes it clear,
“In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.
“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
“So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father’” ?
Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son” ?
And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.”
In speaking of the angels he says, “He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire.”
But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”
                                                                                 Hebrews 1:1-9.
Jesus is the Son of God. God incarnate. Jesus came to this earth to show man how far He would go to reconcile Himself to man.
Jesus speaking of himself gave each person a choice saying,
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son”.
                                                                                                                                 John 3:16-18.
In one way Atheism is like Christianity.
Atheist ask the individual to have faith they are right and God does not exist.
Christianity asks the individual to have faith there is a God who loves them and sent His son to die for their sins.
The question comes down to who do you believe?
Who are you willing to trust with your eternal destiny?
Please think about it.
