A holy and godly life

  A holy and godly life

Jesus speaking about His return said,

“You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” Matthew 24:44.

The apostle Peter explains,

"But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.

Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.    That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.

But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.

So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.” 2 Peter 3:14.

The warning to all believers is to live “holy and godly lives”.

As mere mortals we can never live perfect lives. God knows this. That’s why He sent Jesus to die for our sins.

At the same time however if you have accepted Jesus into your heart you should with Gods help do all you can to live a life pleasing to God. So that when Christ returns you will be with Him.

Are you doing your best to live a holy and godly life?

Please think about it.

Are You?

 Are you?

In the book of Revelations we read Jesus as saying,

"Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed." Revelations 16:15.

The apostle Paul writes,

“Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.” 1 Thessalonians 5:1,2.

It is said Martin Luther while hoeing weeds was asked the question, “What would you be doing if you knew Christ was returning today?”

He replied “I’d be hoeing weeds.”

When I first read that I thought how natural a reply. The garden needed tending to so he was doing it.

Luther didn’t know when Jesus would return. He understood it would be a surprise. As a result I’m sure Luther was ready to meet Christ.

All who profess to be Christians, believers in Christ Jesus, should be ready at all times to meet Christ.

Are you?

Please think about it.
