A Thief in the Night

A thief in the Night
The apostle Peter writes,
“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.” 2Peter3:10
The apostle Paul writes,
“Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.”1 Thessalonians 5:1,2.
As Christians we believe Christ will return to the earth. That God will judge all people and that the world as we know it will pass away.
We do not know the time or day when Jesus will return to this earth. We only know he will and that God will one day judge this world.
Thus we need to be ready. To have our lives right with God. The writer of Ecclesiastes states,
“Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole  duty  of man.
For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:13,14.
Question, were Jesus to return today would you be ready to stand before God and give account of all you have done in your life both good and bad?
Do you have an assurance that you will get into heaven?
If you don’t Jesus offers that assurance.
The apostle John records Jesus speaking of himself and saying,
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son”. John 3:16-18.
The question is do you believe this?
Are you willing to risk your eternal resting place on what you believe?
Please think about it.

Will you?

Will you?
Tony Campolo said,
“When you were born, you cried and everybody else was happy. The only question that matters is this - when you die, will you be happy when everybody else is crying?” Tony Campolo.
Are you certain of your eternal resting place. Life does not end with death. We as humans are more than flesh and blood. We are eternal beings. Eternal beings who will one day be judged by God.
I know there are many out there who say if the good I do out weighs the bad I do I will get to heaven. Christians however do not believe that. We believe no one can live a life good enough to stand before a Holy God.
C. S. Lewis states,
“The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.”  C.S. Lewis.
The apostle Paul tells us,
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.  Romans 3:23,24.
Writing to the Ephesians Paul tells us,
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—  not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8,9.
Christians believe it is by the grace of God we get to heaven. That Christ died for our sins so that we can get to heaven. The apostle Paul stating,
“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!
For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation” Romans 5:6-11.
We Christians believe getting into heaven is relatively strait forward. We must first have faith in Jesus. That He is the Saviour of mankind. The writer of Hebrews who stated,
“In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.” Hebrews 1:1-3.
We Christians believe we must do as the apostle John tells us,
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.” 1John 1:9-10.
We must then accept God’s gift of saving grace. As stated earlier the apostle Paul tells us,
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” Ephesians 2:8.
All of this must be done with sincere faith. The writer of Hebrews stating,
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”  Hebrews 11:1
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6.
So the question is. Are you sure where you will spend eternity? If not are you willing to accept Jesus into your life, so that you may inherit eternal life with God?
Please think about it.
